At first, some of the crowd thought that he was staging a harmless historical re-enactment. But in ninety seconds, he had killed 20 people and wounded another 15. Leaving the shooting, he drove to a gas station where he carjacked a couple. After shooting the woman, he locked the man in the trunk and drove to a nearby guesthouse where he had earlier killed the two owners. He held the man hostage for sixteen hours before setting fire to the cottage.
